Islamic State group ISIL has claimed responsibility for a suicide car bomb attack near the Iraqi embassy in Kabul on Monday, according to the group’s Amaq news agency.
At least two explosions were heard near the embassy in the Shar-e-Naw district and a gun battle is under way.
Security officials said there appeared to be five gunmen involved but there was no immediate word on any casualties.
Civilians are being evacuated from the area.
The attack comes a week after at least 35 people were killed in a suicide attack on government workers in Kabul and underlines the precarious security in Afghanistan as the US administration considers an overhaul of its policy in the region.
